How to... Heat Up Your Crab Legs

So you have your Alaskan Wild King Crab Legs. They're huge, now what?
Well, we have a little experience in this department. Here are some helpfful tips and great ways to prepare these wild and giant beasts from the bottom. I know you'll be hooked!

Good Luck and Enjoy!

Who's feeling Crabby? I am!

Preparing Jumbo Crab Legs is easier than you think. They arrive at your door already cooked! So you really, just need to thaw and reheat them. Which is quick, only takes between 4-10 minutes depending on which method you use.

First things first.
Thaw your King Crab legs. I like to place them on a rack in a watertight container, this allows them to drain as they defrost. I always defrost my legs overnight in the refrigerator.

I like 'em Hot
Steaming your Legs
You'll need a steamer pot, OR if you are using the King Crab legs from ShopFresh; a roasting pan with a rack may be more useful, these legs are the real deal - big!

Fill your pot (or pan) with salted water. Make sure the water is below the rack. Let your steamer pot or roasting pan come to a boil. Then add your legs to the rack or pot and cover. You will know they are done when you can smell them. It is always reccomended to touch (with caution) the meaty part of the leg to make sure it is at the temperature you would like it to be.

Baking your legs…
Place your legs in a baking pan. Add hot water to fill pan 1/8 inch deep. Cover the pan with foil. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 10-15 mins or until heated through.

Legs on the Barbie…
Grilling is easy. About 10 mins on the grill at a medium heat. Make sure to keep you eye on them. If the temperature gets too hot, this will dry your crab legs out.

The Best Part
The best way to get at the sweet meat is to use kitchen scissors/shears. Break the crab apart at the obvious places and then cut down the middle and get the meat out. Enjoy with clarified butter, cocktail sauce, or your favorite recipe.

Crab Legs are like roses, they can prick! It is not necessary to use a glove but keep in mind they will be very hot and spiny. Be careful when handling them.

There are many ways to reheat King Crab legs. I have only listed a few options in this blog BUT if you have any ideas or tricks that I have not mentioned, please let me know! We love to hear from you! You can reach me at shopfreshseafood@yahoo.com or on Facebook!
